The Consignment Process
Leaving your precious jewelry can be worrisome – let’s ensure you know how we handle your consigned valuables.
Consignment is a very effective option to get the most amount for your jewelry. Consignment means you will leave the item(s) with us to sell on your behalf. When you see our buyer, he will let you know what dollar amount you can expect to receive when your jewelry sells. We do not take a commission – it is net to you when the item(s) sells. No really. That’s exactly what happens. Not kidding.
Now that you’ve made the decision to consign your items, what happens to them? Here’s a few key differences that makes CJEX kind of amazing:
1. Each and every consigned item is stored in our vaults each night for security. They are covered by our insurance while in our possession.
2. Every piece is thoroughly cleaned, restored & sanitized by our restoration team. We take the time to ensure your ring, necklace, bracelet or earrings will be showcased in their best condition. It pains us when we see items elsewhere that are not given the chance to shine.
3. The piece will then return to our buyer for final inspection. Once the item is clean, damage or imperfection may be more readily apparent. Should this be the case, our buyer will inform you of the details and advise whether it is still a suitable candidate for consignment. Or heck, we can probably even fix it, if it makes sense to do so.
4. The last stages of preparing your jewelry for resale is pricing, entry into our database, photography & adding it to our website. We may also choose to advertise the piece on Social Media, including Facebook, Instagram and Tik Tok. You can share it on your channels if you wish. The more eyeballs the better.
FAQs
How long does it take to sell?
That is the BIG question. The simple answer is…we don’t know. OK, we kinda know but remember we want to sell it too. Many factors play into the time it can take to find a new owner. The style of the piece, desirability, time of year, unusual features (for example, an eternity band that cannot be sized may very well take longer to find a buyer as we have to find the person that it fits). Sometimes it is as simple as we have the piece at the right time and the perfect buyer. It can take days, weeks, months or years.
What happens if my item doesn’t sell?
We do not require the item to be here for a minimum or maximum period of time. We will keep trying to sell the piece as long as it is in our possession. If a sale isn’t made in a time frame you are happy with, you are always welcome to pick up the jewelry. You may also wish to consider selling it outright (link to “Selling Your Jewelry” tab).
Are there any fees?
There is a $50 non-refundable administration fee for each consigned item. This covers the cleaning & restoration of each item. If the piece is white gold and requires rhodium plating, there will be an additional $100 added to these pieces. These fees are due at the time of consignment. Our buyer will carefully review all charges at the time of drop off.
Are there specific items you will not consign?
We are not accepting consignments of clarity enhanced diamonds, pearl strands. This list is not exhaustive & subject to change. Please ask our buyer directly about your specific pieces for confirmation of consignment suitability.
