The birthstones for June are Pearl, Moonstone, and Alexandrite. Lots to choose from!
Pearls are classic. We have them, our mothers have them, and so on… even the Queen has them! I think pearls, like diamonds, are something you cannot go wrong with. With so many types, colors, and shapes to choose from the perfect pearl strand, bracelet, or earrings for you is out there! One of the most frequently asked questions about pearls is ‘What is the difference between pearl types?’ Simply, there are many oysters in the world’s oceans, and to understand the different types of pearls available you need to understand the differences between the types of ‘mother shell’ or ‘host shell’ which produces the pearl. Not all pearls are born equal, thus resulting in a wide variety of appearance and value. (I’ll talk more about pearls in a blog dedicated just to them soon!)
Moonstone is rich in luster and very subdued in color. As it’s moved around light bounces off of it in ever-changing ways. I think moonstone is an exquisite choice for a big gemstone ring, because the color is so neutral and matches everything!
Alexandrite! This stone is SO cool!!! Depending on the quality of the Alexandrite, the stone changes from a pink to plum to bluish green! It is the most famous and popular of gemstones that change color. This transition happens from daylight to candle light. The more intense the color change the higher the quality of the Alexandrite. This stone was first discovered in the Ural Mountains of Russia in 1830, and has no doubt been prized for its beauty and uniqueness since then!
