There are nine pets between our staff of seven people at Canadian Jewelry Exchange. So yeah, we’re sort of in love with animals. That’s why it was an easy choice to support the BC SPCA’s Offleashed Gala as its presenting sponsor for 2019, hosted at the Coast Capri Hotel on November 2nd.
It’s not every day we get to put on our most sequined dresses and dapper tuxedos, which is why we wanted to recap the event here; to relive the memories and encourage businesses and organizations to consider sponsoring the event next year.
What is the Offleashed Gala?
It’s a very special evening held once a year by the BC SPCA in Kelowna, Vancouver and Victoria – a big night out, if you will. Think: gourmet three-course meals, glittery entertainment, silent and live auctions, and the best part of all – a cuddle lounge with adoptable pets to hug and hold during the event’s reception.
This year, the Border Collie Lab mix puppies in the cuddle lounge were so sweet, our own Dil got herself on the adoption list for one named Willow. The lists were long, and Willow is going to a good home, just not Dil’s this time. Maybe next year!
Around 200 tickets for the gala sell out fast, which makes it worthwhile to follow the Kelowna BC SPCA Facebook page for updates on when tickets go on sale.
How much money was raised for the BC SPCA?
The funds raised by sponsorships, ticket sales and auction bids totaled $102,885.00 at the Kelowna event alone for 2019. This is a significant number that, as we learned during the passionate and emotional speeches during dinner, will have a real impact on initiatives within the BC SPCA, including the Cruelty Investigations Department, which conducts thousands of animal cruelty investigations every year, and its senior dog rehoming program.
What does the presenting sponsor do during the event?
The presenting sponsor has the unique honour of delivering a speech during the dinner portion of the evening, alongside some of the most respected and hard-working BC SPCA advocates and staff members, including Kelowna Branch Manager Sean Hogan and Chief Executive Officer Craig Daniel. The nerves were running high for Lisa and Dil before getting up on stage, but once they were up there, it wasn’t so bad.
The investment of sponsorship provides an incredible opportunity to support a worthwhile cause while aligning your brand with those charitable values you uphold as part of your company culture. During the event, we enjoyed great conversations with like-minded people and the giddy feeling of seeing the CJEX name up in lights onstage. And of course, the wonderful event itself, shared with colleagues and friends.
