A Shout Out to Fabulous Okanagan Wine
As you know we have a slight passion for wine…and specifically Okangan wine from our home. This week is one of Dil’s picks, Cedar Creek 2008 Platinum “M”.
Whenever I go to my older brother’s house he always pours me a Scotch. He’s a Scotch man. Through his love for Scotch I have developed my own love for this amazingly cerebral sometimes oaky, sometimes nutty, sometimes smoky brunneous toned liquid.
With that being said, I was utterly shocked when I went there (in February or March) and he handed me a glass of something different. He told me, verbatim, to ‘shut up and try it’ and then proceeded to tell me how much he and his wife l.o.v.e.d it. It was lighter in color, and it smelled a little nutty and maybe a bit smoky. To my surprise, when I tried it, it tasted like apricots and pears. I had never tried a fortified wine before, but as soon as I had that first sip, I was hooked. Since then there is not a family dinner, event or party that goes by where we don’t have “M” on hand. I shed a couple of tears when I noticed my last bottle was almost empty and that Cedar Creek was now sold out. It will be available again the end of November to the beginning of December, but that’s a little ways away.
What is “M” you ask? It is a fortified Pinot Blanc that is placed in the sun for it to reduce and concentrate for 5 years. Interestingly so, it is also the only Madeira style wine made in the Okanagan Valley! (I hope I got all that right… ) 🙂
What’s the point? TRY IT!! You won’t be disappointed, I promise. You can’t go wrong with fabulous Okanagan wine.
